In 1890 Vincent van Gogh painted his Amandelbloesem (Almond blossoms) in France. Van Gogh got inspiration from Japanese printmaking for the subject of the work. The painting was a gift for his brother Theo to celebrate the birth of his nephew.

The painting hangs in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
