Cool Bananas

Busby Berkeley (1895 – 1976) was a Hollywood movie director and choreographer. For his movies Berkeley created elegant and elaborate musical production numbers, using large, fantastical sets and exotic props. As can be seen in this trailer for The Gang’s all Here (1943) starring Carmen Miranda.

Often seen from above, the dancers form complex geometric patterns and their bodies compose intricate, kaleidoscopic patterns. Like this sequence form his 1933 film Footlight Parade.
