Interesting Lady: The Baroness
It is hard to describe the weird and wonderful Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven (1874 – 1927): A Dada poet, avant-garde vagabond, anarchist, shoplifter, radical performer. A living Dada artwork. She dressed up in found objects (tin-can bras, shower curtain rings, live canaries around her neck). Marcel Duchamp said: She is not a futurist, she is the future.
Sadly she spent the last part of her life alone and broke, partly because she was incapable of compromises. In her own words: I cannot bow – I can only fling myself.
No spinsterlollypop for me!
Yes! We have no bananas
